aunque se alimente en su pecho;

Ella es una madre, pálida de miedo;

el estremecimiento del alma;
ver rodar las olas amenazantes
sin poder controlar el destino.
¡Oh! ¡Devolvednos nuestro sueño dorado,
la alegría de nuestro hogar,
y dejadnos vivir nuestra vida sencilla

Mother’s milk, Cow’s milk, Almond milk.

First I avoided meat, then fish, then eggs…but “dairy was the hardest”…until I was separated from my youngest daughter.

In 2018, I spent the night at a farm and witnessed the horrorrific sounds of separation that cows and their calves have to go through.

Pain I was able to understand due to my own…the loss of a love bond like ‘the sunniest ray of living joy darkened by dread, by cruel hands’

That estrangement and the hidden realities of factory farming pushed me to move past vegetarianism into veganism.

I realized that the dairy and egg industries also involves slaughter, overbreeding, and painful conditions for cows and hens. Practices incompatible with animal rights, incompatible with love, and incompatible with kindness.

In addition, animal agriculture, including dairy farming practices, drives significant deforestation, water shortages, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss.

Therefore eliminating the consumption of all animal products further reduces our carbon and land footprint, and our suffering.

The Slave Mother

By Frances Ellen Watkins Harper

He is not hers, — far shade or sun,
Though feasting at her breast;
She dwells for ever on the rack,
In deep unsafety blest.
The sunniest ray of living joy
Is darkened by a dread:
The blue-eyed child, who plays so safe,
O’h, lady! he is dead.

She is a mother, pale with fear,
Her boy clings to her side,
And in her kyrtle vainly tries
His trembling form to hide.
He is not hers, for cruel hands
May snatch him from her nest,
And pluck the birdling from the wing,
To tear him from her breast.

To watch for joy to come again,
The shudder of the soul;
To see the threat’ning billows roll,
And not control the whole.
Oh! give us back our golden dream,
The gladness of our hearth,
And let us live our simple life,
With little ones on earth!

Frances Ellen Watkins Harper explores how the constant threat of a forced trade or auction turns maternal joy into a waking nightmare of terror and loss.

Aloha Ke Akua

“Aloha Ke Akua” is a song created by Nahko and Medicine for the People… The backbone of the song is basically in the title;

Aloha: To love others as one’s self and to do so unconditionally, living a life of charity, compassion, and forgiveness towards others.

Ke Akua: breath of life and the love of God.

kuleana: ones’ personal responsibility.

Here is the song:

Trying Art

The mid 2000s marked and important era…I faced a death and life experience and one of the resolutions that came from that was giving art a chance. I entered the art world in Houston, Texas with the guidance of my friend Martin who served as my art manager for a couple of years. Here are some of the paintings I made.
